Little White Dress & Surgery Update

Style

Dress | Belt | Shoes

In my opinion, this Eliza J dress is a perfect little white dress! It’s a great length, great sleeve, and fully lined. Bonus – so many different types and colors of shoes would work well with this dress, and if it gets cold you can easily throw on almost any kind of jacket. I won’t say the word bc I feel like I totally overuse it- but you know what I’m thinking! (starts with a “V” and rhymes with bersatile)

About the shoes… Charles David snakeskin strappy heels! Doesn’t that just sound fabulous? I’m already thinking of the many outfits that would go well with these snazzy thangs. I love leopard, but I think my go to animal print is snakeskin. What about you? Are you a leopard gal or a snakeskin gal?! Or another?? Do share!

I also wanted to give a short surgery update. This journey is not the most fun, so sharing my thoughts and experience really helps. We’re all in this together, right?!

When is surgery?

July 23, although I am on a cancellation list so it could be sooner!

I’ve decided to drive to and from Dallas. I was having a hard time deciding, but the thought of being stuck on an airplane only a few days after surgery already had me in an anxious panic! Luckily, I’m not in a rush to get back home. My mom and dad will drive with me and I just found out today that Jessica, my sweet and saint of a best friend, will be joining us on the journey from Dallas back to Las Vegas. She is going to fly in to hang and keep me company in Dallas. Like- how lucky am I?!

How long will you be in Dallas?

We will be in Dallas for one week total. We plan to start our road trip on Friday July 19 which gives us 3 days to get there! I have a pre-op appointment on Monday, then the surgery early Tuesday morning. I’ll stay in the hospital overnight, then have my post-op appointment on Thursday. I feel like I’ll need a few days to really rest before we start the journey back – so we plan to start the trip back to Las Vegas on Saturday! My birthday is July 30, and I’ve already planned to have my birthday celebration before I have surgery. A phrase my mom says often comes to mind, “no flies on me!”

How long is recovery?

I’ve been talking with a few people who have had the same surgery, and it has been really helpful. It’s kind of like a support group and I love it! Everyone has shared a different recovery time, so it will be interesting to see how I do. I’ve heard anywhere from 3-6 months. I will have to go back to Dallas for a 6 week checkup and another at 3 months. I’ll also be doing physical therapy when I get back to Las Vegas. I found a great one last year, so I am excited to start the recovery with them!

What is my pain level now?

High! It probably doesn’t make sense because I look and act like I am just fine. But let me tell you, after 5 years I’ve figured out how to deal with this pain! Its become my shadow….

Will the surgery completely take away the pain?

If we look at the situation logically, all of my pain comes from bone on bone pressure. Inserting a disc (shock absorber) seems like it would take away the bone on bone pain, right?! The surgeons can’t guarantee I will be pain free, but they said it will definitely solve a lot of the pain I’m experiencing. So thats good, right?!

What’s next?

I am most looking forward to the ability to squat again! Not even heavy or weights at all, just a plain ol air squat! Don’t get me wrong, I can squat now, but I pay for it later… in pain. Oh and burpees – bring them on!

The inability to workout has been one of the most difficult and frustrating aspects of the last 5 years. After this surgery and when I get the go ahead from my surgeon and physical therapist- I’ve decided to share my daily workouts and eating habits here on AshleighDeane.com. Forced to be idle all this time, I’ve learned so much about the human body and my own body and I want to share it with who ever wants to listen!

The workouts will be tailored to my body and focus on low impact cardio and resistance work. I’m excited to create the weekly workouts and implement a bit of crossfit, pilates, tabata, and more!

Thank you so much for reading and following along!
