Hello! Welcome to the Ashleigh Deane Show!

Thank you for the support during my first month of podcasting! If you are enjoying the podcast, please consider writing a review on apple podcasts or where ever you’re listening. And, let’s spread the fun by sharing the podcast with a friend!

Happy Monday and happy new month! I hope this episode finds you well and excited to take on this new week, and month. May the 4th, as in May the 4th be with you, is this Wednesday! I recently got to go to Star Wars land at Disneyland, I know its been open awhile – but it was my first time… and I mean, it was impressive! The new ride, Rise of the Resistance was incredible! So creative!! I’m no star wars mega fan, but I have seen all the movies, mainly to know the basics, like is Chewie a good guy? R2D2, C3PO – these are all important and possible pop culture trivia questions you never know when you would need to have the answer for…

And – cinco de Mayo is the following day. This is going to be an epic week! We’ve also got quite a few current events to discuss!

Current Events:

The 2022 NFL Draft was here in my hometown – Las Vegas. Historic news!

The other day I was out on my morning run and stopped for a rr break at a park. On the grass – I saw a spray painted logo of the Vegas Golden Knights. I thought – wow, for so long Las Vegas hasn’t had any sports or teams and now that we do – its nice to have something to rally around and cheer on together because we lacked a sense of community… for well – ever! I’ve always been proud and happy to be a Las Vegas native, and now I’m happy to feel that others are embracing the teams in our city and smiling at each other a bit more!

And of course – the big news! Elon Musk made a deal to purchase Twitter for $44 billion and it should be finalized in 6 months.

After this news – the government created a “disinformation board” within the Department of Homeland Securities. So that will be interesting to follow… kind of strange timing.

I’m a fan of truth – and today, its not always easily recognizable. So – again, I refer to my internal personal legend, but in order to feel like I’m non-biased, I also research.

And I like to listen to a variety of different podcasts, and one of those is called The Dershow, by Alan Dershowitz – a liberal democrat a professor at Harvard Law, and also represented Donald Trump in his first impeachment trial. In his podcast, he shares his viewpoints of the daily happenings, and he recently shared his thoughts on Elon Musk taking over Twitter and the 1st Ammendment.

“….a free speech advocate buy Twitter and take it over whats it going to do to this country? It’s going to actually allow the other side to have a voice. Now this is not a voice I agree with, I’m a liberal democrat. I would much prefer people accept the views of moderate civil libertarian people in the marketplace of ideas. What I want to see is everything on Twitter, left right center hard left hard right racists sexist homophobes anti-semites, let them all be on Twitter as long as everybody is allowed. There should be no safe space on social media for people to be offended and try to shut down the media. There should be response spaces.”

Like I’ve said I like to listen to all different podcasts, and this is one that I definitely take into consideration when I’m doing research. Not only do I feel like he is independent, he also has his own viewpoints, and does a really good job of not including into his breakdown of certain situations and current events. So I really appreciate his viewpoint, so I do learn by listening to him.

For my Random Ash Insight of the week, I want to talk about underdogs. “We tend to take inspiration from those who perform against the odds and succeed.”

A dear friend of mine loves the movie Rudy, it’s an improbable story as Rudy had a dream to play football at the University of Notre Dame. (sidetone – a huge rival of USC) But Rudy, without the physical stature or talent of a typical football player realized his dream through pure tenacity. A true underdog story!

I want to talk about underdogs because I feel like I’m an underdog. I am scared daily with my new venture of going all in on Ashleigh Deane, but looking back, I realize I’m more scared of NOT going all in.

That’s the fear that drives me. Coupled with that fear – I strangely also feel peace. That’s not normal – fear and peace co-exisiting? But I realize – it’s because I’m learning to live with the fear. My mom would tell us this story about her grandmother often – “work? Im not afraid of work? I can lie down right next to it and take a nap!” Instead of the word work – I’m changing it to fear. “fear? Im not afraid of fear? I can lie down right next to it and take a nap!”

And THAT is what I call – a Random Ash Insight!

Last week I was chatting with a friend after our pilates class. She was telling me about her daughter and a few personal decisions she was struggling with.  The advice she gave her daughter was so good – I told her I had to share it here on my podcast! Her daughter was doubting one of her decisions, and asking her mom if she made the right choice? Should she go back and undo it?

The advice her mom, my friend, gave was clear… which I appreciate… always… was your original decision “sprit driven?” Meaning – when you made that choice what was driving you? Did you feel in your heart that is was the right thing to do? If you did then… don’t doubt now.  I loved that advice. A clear and simple reminder, and one we can all ask ourselves when we doubt a tough decision we’ve made.

Just the other day, I was catching up with another friend of mine I hadn’t seen in years… she told me about how she recently moved across town and that she felt strongly about purchasing a home – even though she was happy where she was.

She told her dad about the idea and he was against it. I don’t know about you, but its hard to make decisions without family’s approval – but she did and it turned out to be exactly right for her. Her decision was spirit driven. I love those stories – they are reminders we are following our personal legends, and when we do – we are able to reach our full potential, and find happiness.

So – to wrap up my sibling tour – my youngest sibling, Emma is joining, to talk about her motivation and direction, and I invite you to think about why and please with me because you know I’d love to hear from you!
