Starting Wednesday January 6th, I’ll be starting a weekly series on Health & Fitness. The new year is typically a time when people tend to set new goals and intentions. I love the holidays and spending time with friends & loved ones. Gathering also means the potential to indulge in yummy foods- which is healthy! I believe it’s important to have balance in life. Sometimes a healthy balance can feel elusive…but with patience and grace, it is totally possible to achieve!
I first happened upon THE 4 (as I like to call them) while watching this TED talk at a tough time in my life. The speaker spoke about 4 areas of life and how doing one thing in each area once per day will increase your lifespan by 7.5 minutes. If you repeat this everyday, that’s 7.5 minutes/day! In theory, focusing on these 4 areas of life will increase YOUR life- which in turn, allows you more time to truly live the life you love.
I then starting teaching from the book “7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens.” The final habit named, Sharpen the Saw, also discusses 4 areas of life to focus on. After I realized the correlation of these two resources, I started to set goals in the 4 areas of life. I truly believe each are equally important. Without one, you are out of balance. They all work together to help elongate your life, and more importantly… increase your overall level of happiness.
This is Wellness!
I used to think Wellness was only about physical looks. After my first back surgery, I realized Wellness is so much more. Looks and aesthetics are the by-product of living a healthy and well-rounded life. The four areas are:
- PHYSICAL (body)
- EMOTIONAL (heart)
- SPIRITUAL (soul)
- MENTAL (mind)
I’m looking forward to sharing more about THE 4 areas of life and how focusing on them each day will lead to a longer, more fulfilling, and happier life!
