The One Where Phoebe Hates PBS

I recently watched this FRIENDS episode; Joey was inspired by Phoebe giving birth to her brother’s triplets and gets a gig with the PBS telethon. This sparks a debate between the two that there are no ‘self-less good deeds.’

Phoebe then goes on a failed quest to find a ‘selfless good deed.’ I was working out when I watched this episode and coincidentally… workouts bring about my best thinking! (See last week’s post on meditation here.)

Self-less Good Deed vs Selfish Good Deed

I really don’t think there is any difference, do you? I bring up this episode, first… for fun, and second… to share who truly benefits when giving any type of service, EVERYONE! And I don’t think there is anything wrong with that!

Giving service can be a great way to show our gratitude and there are also benefits!

  1. Connects you to others
  2. Increase your social and relationship skills
  3. Good for your mind and body
  4. Helps counteract the effects of stress, anger, and anxiety
  5. Combats depression
  6. Makes you happy
  7. Increases self-confidence
  8. Provides a sense of purpose
  9. Helps you stay physically healthy
  10. Brings fun and fulfillment to your life
